چکیده

This article describes the intraoperative washed cell salvage process and principles of cell salvage technology and addresses the parameters that can maximize the effectiveness of the process. Used appropriately, this technique can be used to recover and readminister several blood volumes of red cells.

Red blood cell contamination of the final cell product impairs the efficacy of autologous bone marrow mononuclear cell therapy.

OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to identify an association between the quality and functional activity of bone marrow-derived progenitor cells (BMCs) used for cardiovascular regenerative therapies and contractile recovery in patients with acute myocardial infarction included in the placebo-controlled REPAIR-AMI (Reinfusion of Enriched Progenitor cells And Infarct Remodeling in Acute Myocar...

Red blood cell salvage during obstetric hemorrhage.

OBJECTIVE To describe which obstetric patients lose enough blood during postpartum hemorrhage to receive a reinfusion of intraoperative blood salvage. METHODS Eight years of intraoperative blood salvage data from a regional tertiary care maternity hospital were analyzed. The volume of blood returned through intraoperative blood salvage was standardized to the volume of red blood cells in an a...

Clinical, haematological and biochemical responses of sheep undergoing autologous blood transfusion

BACKGROUND This study aimed to evaluate the clinical, haematological and biochemical responses to autologous blood transfusion and the feasibility of this practice in sheep. Thus, we used eight male, 8 months old sheep, weighing on average 30 kg, from which 15 mL/kg of whole blood was collected and stored in CPDA-1 bags. Blood samples were refrigerated for 8 days and subsequently re-infused. Th...

Effect of CD34+ selection and various schedules of stem cell reinfusion and granulocyte colony-stimulating factor priming on hematopoietic recovery after high-dose chemotherapy for breast cancer.

We evaluated the effects of various schedules of peripheral blood stem cell (PBSC) reinfusion, granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) priming, and CD34+ enrichment on hematopoietic recovery in 88 patients with advanced breast cancer treated with high-dose chemotherapy, consisting of cisplatin 250 mg/m2, etoposide 60 mg/kg, and cyclophosphamide 100 mg/kg. PBSC (> or = 7.5 x 10(8) nucleate...

Evaluation of extracorporeal alkylation of red cells as a potential treatment for sickle cell anemia.

Nitrogen mustard and nor-nitrogen mustard inhibit sickling, but the concentrations required would be associated with unacceptable toxicity if these agents were administered to patients. Red cells could be treated extracorporeally and infused back into donors, if the alkylating agent could be removed or inactivated, if the treatment per se did not significantly shorten red cell survival, and if ...
